During the construction of the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge and the Northern Marmara motorway, a large number of trees in the forests between Sariyer, Demircikoy, Uskumrukoy, Gumusdere, Garipce and Kilyos are continued to be cut down. People of Istanbul are complaining that these parts of Istanbul are like the lungs of the city and by cutting down the trees for the last 2 months, the city is literally being slaughtered.
It is reported that at the end of the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge project which is planned to take place between Garipce and Poyrazkoy, approx. 3 million trees are expected to be cut down. Millions of trees have already been cut down.
One citizen mentions that during the works of the 3rd Bridge, changes had to be made and therefore the authorities said that some of the trees were cut down unintentionally. “However this is a lie. The other day, there was a fire in the forests of Sariyer. We do not believe in these. They are planning to sell these lands. We will soon see who are going to build villas, apartment blocks etc. in these lands.”
